Closing conference of the electrification and greening project at Zadar Airport
On 18 October 2024 we took part in organising the closing conference of the project “Electrification and greening of the aircraft ground handling system and electrical power supply to aircraft” at Zadar Airport.
This innovative project, worth more than 16 million euros, is co-financed by the European Union through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Its main aim was to cut greenhouse gas emissions and improve the airport’s environmental performance, making Zadar a pioneer of sustainable aviation in Croatia.
The project involves installing new electrical power supply systems for aircraft, which removes the need to burn fossil fuels while an aircraft is on the apron. That not only cuts emissions but also reduces noise, further improving environmental conditions near the airport. The conference presented the project results, including details of the infrastructure installed, the technical solutions and future plans for developing sustainable technologies further.
The project places Zadar Airport at the centre of the green transition in Croatian air transport, and its significance reaches beyond the local community, contributing to global efforts to reduce the aviation sector’s carbon footprint. As partners in this project, we are proud of our contribution to building a more sustainable and environmentally sound future. The initiative lays the groundwork for further sustainable solutions at airports across the country, with Zadar Airport becoming an example to others of how such technologies can be applied successfully.
