The SEE-GL project is building new resources for education in green logistics
The project SEE-GL – Skills and Employment Enhancement in Green Logistics continues to build educational resources that will help modernise vocational education and training in transport and logistics. As an Erasmus+ Capacity Building project, SEE-GL brings together partners from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Montenegro, with the aim of strengthening green logistics practice and preparing future specialists for the growing role of ESG principles in the transport sector.
The project answers a clear need in the labour market and in education: transport and logistics are changing fast, and companies and professionals are increasingly expected to understand sustainability, environmental responsibility, social standards, safety, transparency and responsible management. SEE-GL therefore connects vocational education with what the industry needs now, so that future specialists are better prepared for the green transition in logistics.
One important result so far is a set of research resources already available on the project website. The first is the Research report on transport and logistic ESG industry standards and practices, which surveys ESG regulation, safety standards, industry practice and emerging trends in transport and logistics. The report also analyses how ESG principles are currently treated in education and training for transport logistics across the partner countries.
The second is the Research report on socio-economic structure and job requirements in five countries. Based on the findings of focus groups held in five countries, it gives an insight into labour market dynamics, the demands of existing jobs and the qualifications the transport and logistics sector calls for. Together, the two studies form an important basis for the project results that follow.
Also available is the ESG Integration Policy Recommendation Paper for the Transport Logistics Sector, which draws the research findings together and recommends ways of integrating ESG principles more strongly through strategic reform, industry standards and educational curricula. The paper ties the research to practical recommendations for institutions, educators, decision makers and others working in transport logistics.
One of the key results still to come is a vocational curriculum for the occupation of ESG Specialist in Transport Logistics. It is being developed as a structured, unified vocational education and training programme answering the growing need for ESG specialists in the logistics sector. It will be aligned with the European Qualifications Framework and adapted to the needs of the partner countries, offering a practical route for learners who want to acquire basic and intermediate knowledge and skills in the ESG approach to transport logistics.
The curriculum will support a new professional profile: the ESG Specialist in Transport Logistics. The role reflects a growing need for people who understand not only logistics and transport processes, but environmental impact, social responsibility, safety, compliance, reporting, governance and sustainable business practice. By introducing this new vocational route, the project aims to improve employability, help companies adapt to new sustainability requirements, and let vocational providers offer content tied directly to the future of the logistics sector.
Further project resources will become available during 2026. The publication “Green Transport Makes My Job Opportunity Better” will explain how green transport practice and ESG skills can improve employment prospects in the sector. An e-learning system and a user guide for it will also be developed, allowing flexible online study tied to the new curriculum. The project will also set up five ESG education hubs, to serve as regional centres promoting ESG principles in transport logistics.
Through these activities and resources, SEE-GL is building a long-term basis for greener, more responsible and more modern education in transport logistics. The reports and recommendations already published offer valuable knowledge to educators, vocational institutions, companies and other stakeholders, while the curriculum and e-learning system to come will provide concrete tools for developing a new generation of specialists in sustainable logistics.
