SEE-GL: ESG as the inevitable future of logistics

The transport and logistics sector is in the middle of a tectonic shift. The traditional focus on speed and price is giving way to a new global imperative: sustainability. In that context, ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles have stopped being a corporate buzzword and become a basic condition for doing business on the European market.

A logistics company that cannot demonstrate its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint or to the ethical management of its workforce now risks losing contracts and access to capital. The pressure comes from every direction, from the European Union’s strict regulatory frameworks to clients who want green supply chains. The biggest obstacle to this transition, however, is not a lack of technology but a lack of qualified people who understand how to put those standards into practice.

The project SEE-GL (Skills and Employment Enhancement in Green Logistics) was created as an answer to exactly that challenge.

This Erasmus+ initiative recognised that the green transition cannot succeed without reforming education. The project sets out to integrate ESG principles directly into vocational education curricula across the region, from Slovenia and Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo. In place of outdated models, SEE-GL introduces training in eco-driving, the digitalisation of documents, waste reduction and social responsibility in transport.

The strength of the project lies in its synergy. The consortium brings together educational institutions and professional organisations, including partners such as our company Pannonia Consulting and the other project partners who contribute to developing the methodology and disseminating the results, so that the new knowledge reaches the people who will actually use it.

The future of logistics belongs to those who adapt. Through SEE-GL, the region gets a chance not only to catch up with European standards but to build a workforce that will lead the transformation towards a sustainable, green economy.
